Note: Capacity can be reduced by temporarily laying off a line or deactivating a line. Capacity can be increased by reactivating previously deactivated lines and by building a plant, or a plant addition and new lines. All active lines must be either scheduled, temporarily laid off or deactivated. First ShiftLimits: Lines: 0 to maximum number of lines available Hours: 0, 40 to 48 Lines scheduled + lines idled + lines deactivated must be equal to the number of lines available. Second ShiftSecond shift is only available in your home area. Limits: Lines: 0 to maximum number of lines available in home area Limits, Hours: 0, 40 to 48 Second shift-lines scheduled + second-shift lines idled + second-shift lines deactivated must equal to the number of second-shift lines available. Temporary Layoffs First or Second ShiftNote: There must be a first shift line for every second shift line operating. Layoffs tend to lower moral resulting in lower productivity. Limits: 0 to maximum number of lines available Cost: $52,000 or 312,000 in local currency per quarter per line (subject to inflation) Deactivate First or Second ShiftNote: There must be a first shift line for every second shift line operating. Layoffs tend to significantly lower moral resulting in lower productivity. If second shift deactivated lines are replaced by new first shift lines, moral will not be affected. Limits: 0 to the number of lines available for production Cost: $100,000 or 600,000 in local currency per line Reactivate Deactivated LinesNote: A second-shift line must use the equipment used by a first-shift line. You may not reactivate a second-shift line unless you have a supporting first-shift line either available, being built or reactivated. Limits: 0 to number of lines previously deactivated Cost: $50,000 or 300,000 in local currency per line Research and DevelopmentDevelops new products and new production processes.
